Session Title: How We Use Cultural Wealth to Transform Low-Income Young People of Color Into Tech Innovators and Tech Producers

Hack the Hood, a Bay Area non-profit #techinclusion organization, successfully works with low-income youth of color to train them for careers in tech. Our approach builds on the residency and skills our young people already have and gives them an understanding of the tech ecosystem at the same time they learn basic tech and tech literacy skills. Come meet our team and learn more about how we incorporate principals based on Critical Race Theory, community cultural wealth, and cultural relevancy to build an intensive program that empowers low-income young people ages 16-24 to work in tech. In this workshop, we will share our hands-on, project-based learning model and provide interested attendees with information on ways they can get involved with Hack the Hood as we grow in the Bay area.
