Session Description: Now That You've Built It, Will They Come?

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of our newest facility and find out how The Strand will allow A.C.T. to deepen its impact on our city and community through the transformative power of theater. This discussion will broach topics of expanding your organizational goals while making sure the audience with which you engage continues to play an active role in your growth.

Session Title: The 80 Turk Project— How CounterPulse Stabilized the Arts in San Francsico

Tour CounterPulse’s newly renovated arts space at 80 Turk Street in the Tenderloin and find out what this 501(c)3 non-profit organization learned along the way to property ownership. In this session you’ll find out how CounterPulse formed a public land trust to purchase a multimillion dollar building in order to keep an arts organization in San Francisco. Attendees will learn about the non-profit’s innovative approach to community transformation through the arts, and hear how CounterPulse offers subsidized rehearsal and rental space for artists, while operating a fiscal sponsorship program for local creative and socially-relevant projects.

Session Title: The Battery - A New Kind of Social Club

Peek behind the curtain into San Francisco's most exciting social club. Join General Manager, Frank Kawecki and other members of the Battery team, on a tour of the Battery's, 60,000 sq. ft space and find out how he and his team manage the exciting property that included a restaurant, several bars, hotel rooms, gym and spa, curated art shows, a full program of cultural and culinary events, a wine label and more. Get a glimpse into their robust philanthropic program, Battery Powered and see how they've raised over $2.5 million in less than a year.

Session Title: Art as Activism

Is dance political? What role should artists play in challenging the public? Bold female choreographers Brenda Way, Nicole Klaymoon, and Rosy Simas will discuss the socio-political nature of their work and engage in a philosophical discussion about the role of art, authorship, and activism in contemporary society. View film clips from recent dance works and engage in open dialogue with happy hour following.

Session Title: New Music and Community Re-defined (this story takes place in the Tenderloin)

Explore how the Center for New Music is building a community for musicians in the Tenderloin, harnessing the ethics of the sharing economy, unlocking musical creativity, and modeling how the most experimental creatives can thrive in the midst of a neighborhood, a city, and a music industry undergoing major renovation. This session will explore what new music is, and who makes it, as well as why artists need a community.

Session Title: Origin Story— Welcome to IFTTT HQ

IFTTT CEO Linden Tibbets will share the company’s origin story and lead an interactive discussion about the company's products. Then Co Founder, Alexander Tibbets, will take attendees on a full tour of IFTTT headquarters and share the history behind its expansion from a single top floor office to a full four story building on Market Street. IFTTT is thrilled to participate in its third year as NewCo hosts opening its doors once again.

Session Title: Designing for Good— Strategy and Lasting Change For a Better World

By starting its design processes with clear strategic goals, Elefint produces designs that are both beautiful and effective at driving action. Hear directly from Elefint's co-founders how they found the company’s niche, how it has changed, and where it's headed. Learn how Elefint uses design to help change the way one organization understands its impact in the global health world. Then, explore the rewards and challenges of running a B Corps, part of the movement to redefine success in business.

Session Title: Crowdsourcing Creativity

Yesterday’s focus group participant is becoming today’s creator. In this session, Mariam Naficy, Founder and CEO of Minted, will discuss the business advantages behind using a crowdsourced model and how the model redefines the relationship between businesses and customers. Minted, the crowdsourced design marketplace, enables a passionate global community of artists to be at the center of the business model from start to finish. From entering monthly challenges, to voting on designs that will in turn be sold on the platform, Minted’s content is defined by the community. 

Session Title: Filmmakers are Flocking to the Bay Area— Come Find Out Why

Come meet the people driving the Bay Area film world through an interactive, behind-the-scenes tour of FilmHouse, a beautifully renovated space with a penthouse view of the Bay Bridge. Find out how San Francisco Film Society is bringing together innovative thought leaders in media and technology and connecting them with our generation’s leading storytellers and media makers. Hosted by Noah Cowan, Executive Director, Joshua Reiman, Director of Strategic Partnerships, and Michele Turnure-Salleo, Director of Filmmaker360, this session will give attendees an opportunity to meet filmmakers, learn more about the exciting and imaginative films being made locally, and experience how the San Francisco Film Society is transforming the Bay Area into a destination for filmmakers around the country.

Session Title: One Student, One Tutor, and One Pufferfish at a Time

Join 826 Valencia staff in our Writing Lab for the inside scoop on our mission to close the academic achievement gap through 1:1 tutoring, student publishing, and the store filled with authentic pirate supplies that happens to serve as our front. We'll give a brief overview of our history and an update on our plans to open a second center in the Tenderloin neighborhood before diving right in to writing activities meant to inspire our participants' creativity and help them imagine the wild possibilities and powers inherent in the art of storytelling and bookmaking.

Session Title: Make It Local— Empowerment Through Digital Fabrication and Design.

Visit a robot-enabled fabrication and design shop, and talk through the special seven-step process we use to create amazing buildings, interiors, furniture and art using these incredible tools. Get an interactive demo of on-demand fabrication, and learn how it's truly possible now to make almost anything locally, quickly, and totally custom— for the workplace or the home.

Session Title: Inspiring California’s Future, One Exhibition at a Time

 How can a museum shape our future? Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Oakland Museum of California's 30,000 square foot Gallery of California History and hear from Kelly McKinley, director of OMCA’s curatorial division, about the inner workings of how the Museum develops exhibitions that inspire change in our communities and influence the future of California. (Spoiler alert: you’ll be among the first to get the inside scoop on the Museum’s upcoming exhibition about cannabis!)

Art.com is located at 2100 Powell Street (10th floor), Emeryville inside the Art.com building (you will see a 16-story glass high rise next to the Hilton Garden Inn). Chevy’s Restaurant is right across the street from the parking garage entrance. You can park inside the underground parking garage in which we can validate your ticket once the session is completed (please note we can only validate tickets for the 2100 Powell Street garage). Once you enter the building you can check in with the lobby receptionist and Art.com staff will direct you to the session.

Attendees at Youth Radio's NewCo session will take a tour of our state-of-the-art media and technology facility and studios in the heart of downtown Oakland; see first-hand the high-impact media and technology products created by young people in partnership with our professional reporters, producers and developers; and have the opportunity for Q & A with our youth participants, founder and leadership. Learn about Youth Radio's mission to launch young people on career and education pathways by engaging them in work-based learning opportunities, creative expression, professional development, and health and academic support services.
